The world body governing athletics, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), has moved to block Oscar Pistorius from the Olympics, with a new ruling banning “technical aids”.
Oscar uses blades, called Cheetahs, to run, which is why they call him “Blade Runner” on the track. He has been a double amputee since birth as he was born missing bones below the knee. Two years ago had never stepped onto a track, let alone run a race. Today he is an athletics sensation - holder of world records in the 100m, 200m and 400m events.
The 20-year-old South African is one of a handful of runners around the globe who could make the Olympic qualifying time. He is less than a second away.
Recently in a 400m race he finished 110m ahead of competitors wearing the same “technical aids”. It is really simple, Oscar is just better than anyone else in his field, he needs to compete against “able bodied” athletes to be pushed.
But the old codgers in the IAAF don’t want him to compete with the “able bodied” athletes, what do they want him to do run on his stumps? Oscar is taking this all in his stride and letting his running do the talking. There have been many studies done that prove the blades are not as effective as having actual legs. Which leads to an interesting conclusion. If Oscar had been born with bones in his legs, would he have been the best in the world full stop?
So let’s send the message to the IAAF that they are really not fit to govern if all they can do is discriminate against exceptional human performance.

Oscar Pistorius is an incredible human being. He has been incredible since birth and after when he started walking on hisfirst pair of prosthetics. Now years later he is showing us all what can be done with a lot of bravery, courage and determination. He says he’s not disabled. Give him a chace to prove that to us. He has nothing to prove to himself. IAAF just see your way to let Oscar run. He is good.
